The cost to publish an article depends if the journal is subscription based or is Open Access.
If you wish to publish in one of our subscription based journals then in the majority of cases there is no charge. Charges may apply for colour figures or over-length articles and some journals have page charges. You can find information regarding all of these costs on the individual journal home pages, or in each journal's Instructions for Authors.
If you wish to publish in an Open Access ("SpringerOpen") journal or an open access article ("Springer Open Choice") there will be an Article Processing Charge (APC) to be paid by the author or their funding institution. This ensures the article can be freely read, downloaded or distributed from SpringerOpen and SpringerLink.
The cost of APCs vary by journal so please visit the individual journal page for details. You can also find additional information regarding publishing charges, funding and author rights on the Springer Open Access site. Charges are typically quoted in GBP, EUR and USD. We can also provide quotes in Yen and Renminbi although we are currently unable to invoice in these currencies.
